The Tour returns to South Africa this week for the Nelson Mandela Championship at Mount Edgecombe CC. The course is a short par 71 with water featuring on a number of holes. Shorter, more accurate hitters will have a comparative advantage. The event runs Wednesday-Saturday owing to Nelson Mandela’s funeral. Maybe the home based players will draw some inspiration from this. Scott Jamieson won last year in the first staging of this event (at Royal Durban).
Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
---|---|---|---|
Richard Finch | 2pt each way 33-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: MC Back Richard Finch Again |
We’re going with Richard again this week for pretty much the same reasons as last week. His solid T8 (one shot outside the paying places) has not put us off. In fact, T2 and T8 is good playing and he’s coming into this event with some momentum. There’s no question, if he keeps up his current level of performance he’s going to be right in the mix come Saturday afternoon. | |||
Jbe Kruger | 2pt each way 40-1 | SkyBet |
Finishing position: T11 Back Jbe Kruger Again |
We think Jbe’s worth another shout this week. He had a good couple of roundas last week and seems to be finding his game after a year in the wilderness. He’s managed a good T2 recently and the short nature of the course should suit. In a field lacking real depth he’s worth a small punt this week. We can see Skybet’s early 40-1 being gobbled up pretty quickly! | |||
David Drysdale | 1pt each way 66-1 | Boylesports |
Finishing position: WD Back David Drysdale Again |
We think David has a strong chance this week. He’s been playing some decent golf of late and usually performs to a good standard in these African events. In fact, David’s gone on record saying how important he sees these events in securing his card. No question, he’ll be fully focussed on the job in hand and the short nature of the course should suit. |
