The European Tour reaches its climax this week after a long hard 11 month slog. The Greg Norman designed Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates is the venue and it’s one of the longest venues on tour t 7675 yards. The fairways are quite wide with large undulating greens making this a course for the longer hitters. In fact, any of the Middle east specialists are worthy of consideration. Naturally, this is the strongest field of the season and all the usual suspects are at the top of the odds charts.
Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
---|---|---|---|
Thongchai Jaidee | 2pt each way 66-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: T47 Back Thongchai Jaidee Again |
Thongchai has steadily matured into a really solid, consistent player. He’s accumulated five tour wins and seems primed for a sixth. He’s usually at his best in warm, dry conditions and has a very solid record in the Middle East. He’s T37-T8-T7 in his last three starts here and is coming off his most lucrative finish to date when T2 in the BMW. Factor all these things in and he’s a solid each way prospect this week. | |||
Peter Uihlein | 2pt each way 55-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: 51 Back Peter Uihlein Again |
We’re going with Uihlein for the fourth straight week and make no apology for that. He’s had a quiet couple of weeks but the Earth Course sets up perfectly. He’s 7th in Driving Distance and 18th in Putts per GIR this year and those are the stats that are most relevant this week. He’s going to create more birdie chances than most and if the putter’s warm then he should be up there come Sunday. | |||
David Lynn | 1pt each way 125-1 | SkyBet |
Finishing position: T42 Back David Lynn Again |
David’s had another memorable year with a win in Portugal and making solid progress on the PGA Tour. He’s certainly a late developer but Lynn looks primed for a few more victories over the next year or two. We just have a feeling that playing relaxed golf on a course he’s familiar with (T16 in 2011) he could pop up in the top five. Remember his shock 2nd to Rory McIlroy in the 2012 US PGA. That was on another wide-open ‘bomber’s’ course and we think a small stake might just reap a reward. |
