The Northern Trust Open takes place at the usual venue of Riviera Country Club, a long standing and prestigious venue. The course is a 7279 yard par 71 with three par 5s. The holes are tight, tree-lined with small greens. Accurate hitters and good shot-makers are favoured here and the course sets up well for players who fade the ball. It is certainly a venue that doesn’t favour the ‘Bombers’ on tour. Generally speaking the more experienced players prosper here. Bill Haas defends and his game looks in good enough nick to go well again this year (two top 10s in his last two starts). Phil Mickelson is the favourite and is a previous winner.

Charles Howell III | 2pt each way 50-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: MC Back Charles Howell III Again |
Charles is probably playing the best golf of his career right now. T3-T2-T9-T36 are form figures that speak for themselves. Add to that the fact that Howell is a previous winner at Riviera and is comfortable with the tight, tree-lined course. He’s probably going to add to his two career Tour wins very soon and at these odds simply cannot be ignored. | |||
K J Choi | 2pt each way 60-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: T33 Back K J Choi Again |
K.J. had a very disappointing 2012 after his stellar 2011 which peaked with a win at the Players Championship. He’s a proven winner and a gritty competitor and looks primed for a bounce back. T9 at the Farmers Insurance Open indicates the form is returning. He also needs high finishes to get into this season’s big events. Eleven straight cuts made at Riviera and latest form figures of 7-3-27-7-24 certainly indicate a possible high finish. |
