The Italian Open moves to a new venue this week at Golf Club Torino. It’s a 7200 yard par 72 with reachable par 5s. The fairways are tree-lined but only pose problems for the seriously wayward. There is no significant course form to go on so current form is well worth studying. Gonzalo Fdez-Castano has the best recent Italian form, winning in 2007 and 2012.
Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
---|---|---|---|
Gregory Havret | 2pt each way 33-1 | Stan James |
Finishing position: MC Back Gregory Havret Again |
Gregory Havret is really hitting form at the moment. He’s got a solid long term record at the Italian Open and he looks well placed to add to his three tour victories. Last week’s eye catching T3 at the KLM Open and 7 top 25s in his last 11 events shows he’s got the game to contend this week. The odds are quite low but he’s carrying as much momentum as anyone at present. | |||
Rafael Cabrera-Bello | 2pt each way 40-1 | BetVictor |
Finishing position: MC Back Rafael Cabrera-Bello Again |
We think Rafa’s a good pick this week. He’s well overdue his third Tour win and he’s had a consistent season, making a lot of cuts and 9 top 25s. He’s just not put it all together over four rounds He’s going to hit as many greens as most this week and he’s certainly not going to be intimidated by the class of field. He should be able to reach the par 5s and if the putter is anything like warm then he should reward a small punt at good odds. | |||
David Drysdale | 1pt each way 100-1 | BetVictor |
Finishing position: T23 Back David Drysdale Again |
David is having a quietly effective season and has had a series of good finishes. The course looks well set up for his accurate hitting and against a weak field we can see him getting into contention this week. Drysdale has put together six top 25s this season, the latest a T10 at Gleneagles. He’s been due a big finish all season and we see no reason why he can’t put together a contending performance here. |
