The Scottish Open returns to Castle Stuart for the third year. This links event is the last tournament before the Open Championship and traditionally attracts a strong field. The course measures just under 7200 yards and is a par 72. The fairways are reasonably generous in width and scoring tends to be quite low. Wind can be a factor but the forecast this week is dry and sunny. Jeev Milka Singh was the surprise winner in 2012.

Everyone knows Alex is a really solid, consistent player who really should have won more than his three tour events. This year follows the usual pattern of few missed cuts (one) and a host of high finishes (five top 6s in 13 starts). Whenever he’s available at these odds he has to be considered. Factor in last year’s T3 at -16 and he really is a must each way bet!

Rafa has steadily established himself on tour over the years and has a solid all-round game. He’s managed two wins and there are surely more to come. He’s had a T5 and a T29 in his two starts at Castle Stuart and with attention fixed on the Big Gums we can see him sneaking a high finish. A very nice T5 at the Irish Open shows his game is in decent nick at the minute so a small nibble on Rafa this week might well pay off.

Martin has had a great year in the States winning the Texas Open with a great final round 63. In fact, he’s an established player and proven winner. Laird is one of those guys who can find form from nowhere but his four year record at the Scottish Open is worth a second glance (10-26-62-16) and he’ll be keen to post a win on a rare visit to his homeland. He’s worth a small nibble at good odds where a lot of guys attention will be focussed elsewhere.
