The Irish Open moves to a-new venue this year at the Colin Montgomery designed Carlton House Golf Club in Co. Kildare. Ireland’s premier tournament was last staged here in 2006. The course is a 7300 yard par 72 with four par 5s and an open, links-style feel. The last two winning scores have been -5 (Bjorn) and -9 (Dodd) so the course would seem to be no pushover. Jamie Donaldson is the defending champion but there is little course form to go on.
Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
---|---|---|---|
Darren Fichardt | 1.5pt each way 125-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: T73 Back Darren Fichardt Again |
Darren has had a super year so far with a 1st, a 2nd and a T7 all in his last five starts. That alone makes him worthy of consideration in a field that, a few big names apart, doesn’t strike fear into the heart. Putting is always key with Darren and if the flat stick’s working then he can be a dangerous player. He’s No.1 for putts per GIR and that says it all really. If he putts the way he has this week then he has a first class chance of contending at a massive price. | |||
Paul Waring | 1.5pt each way 70-1 | Stan James TOP SIX |
Finishing position: WD Back Paul Waring Again |
Paul Waring is looking a good bet on a course unfamiliar to the bulk of the field. We feel current form is vital this week and Paul certainly has that. He’s had a T4, T5 and T10 in his last six starts and in the absence of relevant course form he’s going into this event with real momentum. | |||
John Parry | 1pt each way 90-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: T73 Back John Parry Again |
John Parry is an up-and-coming player who is moving in the right direction. He’s had some solid results over the last few weeks including an excellent T28 at the US Open. He says he’s taken a lot of positives out of that and this seems to be backed up by his T10 last week. We think he can go even better this week. |
