A relatively weak field lines up in Dubai at the Emirates GC. Few of the stars of European golf are present; really just Westwood and Garcia. The course is a 7300 par 72 and the wind can be a factor. Rafael Cabrera-Bello defends. A solid tee-to-green game is required here with a number of dog-leg, tree lined holes. The large Bermuda greens are relatively flat. Campbell, Howell, Jaidee and Olesen are names to conjure with this week. We see some of the lesser lights coming to the fore this week.
Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
---|---|---|---|
Thomas Bjorn | 2pt each way 45-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: T72 Back Thomas Bjorn Again |
Thomas had another solid year in 2012, with three punter friendly finishes. He’s had pretty solid long term from at The Emirates without really threatening a victory. With the Big Guns elsewhere we can see that changing this week. The course suits his accurate hitting from both tee and fairway (over 70% in both fairways and GIR). If the putter behaves this week we can see this proven winner being right in the thick of things on Sunday. | |||
David Howell | 1pt each way 66-1 | SkyBet/Paddy Power |
Finishing position: T30 Back David Howell Again |
We are going for Mr. Howell again this week. We se no reason why he cannot challenge again come Sunday. After another solid performance in Qatar the same tips apply this week. We’ve seen nothing in his last three performances on the European Tour this season (-26 combined) that point to anything other than another good display in Dubai. With the European big hitters largely absent the way is clear for an in-form outsider to steal in. David could be the man. The tee to green game looks solid and his putting is getting back to its best. We see a win in Howell this season and as a Middle East specialist it could well be here. |
