A solid field lines up this week in at Doha Golf Club. The obvious omissions after last week are Woods and McIlroy. The course is a 7400 yard par 72 with a winning score usually around -15. Wind can be a factor but the forecast is decent. Last year’s tournament was reduced to three rounds. Paul Lawrie defends. He looks a reasonable bet at the current 33-1 but we’re looking further down the list.
| Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thongchai Jaidee | 2pt each way 50-1 | Ladbrokes |
Finishing position: T9 Back Thongchai Jaidee Again |
| Current form figures of 3-T9 from two starts this season plus a win at the 2012 Wales Open mark Jaidee out as a man to watch. Solid, if unspectacular course form (one missed cut from 10 starts) makes this guy a must bet at these odds. Bang in form, the course suits and we think he’s well capable of adding to his five tour victories. | |||
| David Howell | 1pt each way 100-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: T22 Back David Howell Again |
| David is a proven winner who is steadily getting back to his best form. After a big slump a few years ago he has refocused and re-applied himself. Five top 10s in his last nine starts at Doha speaks for itself. We’re ignoring last year’s missed cut. He had a good T6 finish last week which should have been so much better. He is approaching his best form and Abu Dhabi will have done a lot to shake off any rustiness. A solid each way bet at these prices and we can see a win in him in 2013. | |||
