It’s back to the mainland this week for the Cashbuilder Challenge. This is an unusual tournament in a couple of ways. It is played over three courses at (PGA West Palmer, PGA West Nicklaus and La Quinta). All are relatively short par 72s and they were all ranked in the top 10 easiest courses in 2012. However The Stadium Course was added last year which is an altogether tougher set-up. It also has a Pro-Am format which leads to slow play and can be a severe test of patience for certain types of players. Jason Dufner won in 2016.
Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
---|---|---|---|
Ryan Palmer | 2pt each way 40-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: MC Back Ryan Palmer Again |
We think three time tour winner Ryan Palmer is ripe for more success. He’s a quality player who has a first class record at PGA West. He’s managed 4-6-2-10 in his last six starts and looks a rock solid prospect this week. If he’s going to post win No. 4 anywhere this season it’s probably here, especially as he was T17 last year. | |||
Kevin Na | 2pt each way 50-1 | Ladbrokes |
Finishing position: T70 Back Kevin Na Again |
Win No. 2 can’t be far away for the super-consistent Kevin Na. He posts a host of high finishes every season. What interests us this week is his T3 in 2016 on the new, slightly tougher set-up. Well worth a punt at this price. | |||
Charles Howell III | 2pt each way 28-1 | Ladbrokes |
Finishing position: T12 Back Charles Howell III Again |
Charles had a good run for is last week at The Sony, narrowly missing out on a pay out with T8. He’s a solid player who usually starts the year well. He’s got a decent record at PGA West and last year’s T11 on the new set up bodes well. |
All quoted odds correct as of 17:00 on 16/01/2017. These are obviously subject to fluctuation.
