The first event on the PGA Tour in 2017 is a restricted field event featuring all the winners in 2016 (or at least those who want to turn up). Some of the big names who would be eligible to play are missing so this one looks pretty wide open. In fact, half the field has never played the event before.
The Plantation Course at Kapalua is a wide open par 73 of 7411 yards with the 663 yard par 5 18th the signature hole. Wind can be a factor but the course should suit the longer hitters. Jordan Speith won last year’s event.
Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
---|---|---|---|
Tony Finau | 2pt each way 45-1 | BetFred |
Finishing position: T9 Back Tony Finau Again |
Big Tony had a breakthrough win in 2016 and looks set for further success. His big hitting style is well suited to Kapalua and we can see him going well this week and showing up in the paying places. | |||
Jimmy Walker | 2pt each way 30-1 | SkyBet |
Finishing position: T9 Back Jimmy Walker Again |
In an event where value is hard to find this early price on proven winner Jimmy Walker shines out. He’s had a great few years and we see no reason why he can’t win again in 2017 having captured the US PGA. Walker has only had two stabs at Kapalua and his 2nd place in 2015 shows he’s capable of contending this week against such a restricted field. | |||
Branden Grace | 2pt each way 40-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: 32 Back Branden Grace Again |
Of all the Kapalua rookies this week Brandeb Grace makes most sense to us. He’s got a solid all round game and is a genuine World Class player who we think will land a Major in the next year or two. He’ll be looking for a big 2017 and a fast start at Kapalua isn’t out of the question. |
