So here we are at the final Major of the year, the US PGA Championship. This year’s event takes place at Oak Hill GC in New York State. The course is a par 70 of 7163 yards and presents a classic test with tree lined fairways and relatively small greens. Players are likely to leave the driver in the bag on many holes and it’s certainly a course where you have to plot your way round. The set up is less severe than a US Open but expect relatively few scores under par. Rory McIlroy is the defending champ and Shaun Micheel won the US PGA on this course in 2003. This week is going to have a US Open feel and the players that prosper in those conditions should be at home here.
Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
---|---|---|---|
Hunter Mahan | 2pt each way 33-1 | BetFred ¼ odds TOP SEVEN |
Finishing position: T57 Back Hunter Mahan Again |
We’re going for Hunter again as he’s banging on the door of a Major win. On a course where accuracy from tee and fairway is paramount then Mahan’s name should never be far away from your thinking. He’s in good, solid form and we think he’s got a great chance in a tournament that has a habit of throwing up first time Major winners. He’s just experienced the birth of his first child and this could well inspire him this week. | |||
Zach Johnson | 2pt each way 55-1 | BetVictor ¼ odds TOP SIX! |
Finishing position: T8 Back Zach Johnson Again |
After an iffy start to the season, mainly due to some swing changes, Zach is really starting to hit his stride. Current form is excellent (T2-T6-T4) with an eye catching performance in the Open. It’s easy to forget that Johnson is an existing Major winner (2007 Masters) and it’s high time he added to his tally. Like Striker, the course should suit him down to the ground. Tight fairways, small greens and lots of patience required. Johnson is reaching the top of his game and should be a threat this week. | |||
Steve Stricker | 2pt each way 50-1 | BetFred ¼ odds TOP SEVEN |
Finishing position: T12 Back Steve Stricker Again |
There’s not a lot wrong with Steve’s game at the moment. 19th in the Fedex cup from 9 starts speaks volumes and the course fits well. T8-T10-13 is a solid recent record with a decent finish at Firestone at the weekend. He should be well able to grind out the pars that will get him into contention here. Time is starting to run out for the Wisconsin based 46 year old, but if he’s going to win a major then the PGA is surely it. |
