The Scottish Open returns to Castle Stewart after a two year absence. It’s a modern links layout – much in the style of Kingsbarns and isn’t overly punishing. -18 should be needed to win and being a par 72 of lass than 7200 yards, it should offer up plenty of birdies. Form from 2011-2013 is of most relevance here. Rickie Fowler won last year and Phil Mickleson is the last Castle Stewart winner.

He’s also adept at the less punishing links tests – look at last year’s Paul Lawrie Matchplay. He’s worth an each way interest at this price with the big names’ focus elsewhere.

Alex is having a good year and seems back to his best after a long lay off. He’s posted some good results this season and has a promising Castle Stewart record – culminating in a T3 in 2012. Could go close again this week.
