John Deere Classic - TPC Deere Run, Silvis, IL

11 July 2013 - 14 July 2013

Tip date: 09 July 2013

TPC Deere Run is this week’s venue for the John Deere Classic in Illinois. The course is a very easy resort-style set-up which offers no real challenge to the pros. At least -20 is needed to win and Paul Goydos shot a 59 in 2010. It measures 7268 yards and is a par 71. The 18th is a tricky par 4 with water very much in play. Zach Johnson is the defending champion, although Steve Stricker is the ling-term form horse here with wins in 2009, 10 and 11. The field features only six of the World’s top 30.

Name Odds Bookmaker
Charles Howell III 2pt each way 60-1 Bet365 Finishing position: T33

Back Charles Howell III Again
Charles is in the middle of his best year for a long time. Nearly $2m banked already and a host of high finishes. This is down to much improved putting (93rd 2012; 17th 2013). He’s had five top 10s and 9 top 25s. He’s only had four attempts at TPC Deere Run but 22-23-39-5-MC is steady enough. With his solid long game, if he putts anything like this week then he should be up there with a big chance.
Kevin Streelman 1.5pt each way 50-1 BetVictor TOP SIX Finishing position: T44

Back Kevin Streelman Again
Kevin has had a mega year thus far with a 2nd, a 3rd and a great win at the Tampa Bay Championship. He’s sitting pretty at 8th in the Fedex Cup. Yeah, he’s missed his last four cuts but most of those were on courses that were never going to suit. Factor in two T8s in his only three starts at the John Deere and we think he’s well capable of contending this week.
Brendon De Jong 1pt each way 40-1 BetVictor TOP SIX Finishing position: T54

Back Brendon De Jong Again
When is the big Zimbabwean going to break his duck? 170 starts and no wins (he’s picked up $7,500,000 in that time so don’t feel too sorry) and another solid year in 2013. His all round game has been as good as ever and he’s just been held back a bit by a lukewarm putter (109 strokes gained). He’s still 41st in the Fedex Cup with three top 10s. A nice T17 at The Greenbrier with three rounds in the 60s shows promise and T&-T7-T19 in his last three attempts at Deere Run means there’s reason to be optimistic about Brendon’s chances this week.

All quoted odds correct as of 14:00 on 09/07/2013. These are obviously subject to fluctuation.
