The first event on the PGA Tour in 2016 is a restricted field event featuring all the winners in 2015 (or at least those who want to turn up). Some of the big names who would be eligible to play are missing so this one looks pretty wide open. In fact, half the field has never played the event before.
The Plantation Course at Kapalua is a wide open par 73 of 7411 yards with the 663 yard par 5 18th the signature hole. Wind can be a factor but the course should suit the longer hitters. Patrick Reed won last year’s event.
Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
---|---|---|---|
Zach Johnson | 2pt each way 22-1 | Stan James |
Finishing position: T21 Back Zach Johnson Again |
Zach has had a super 2015 winning the Open in fine style. He’s a World Class player who’ll be looking for another solid year in 2016. Johnson won here in 2014 and followed up with 7th last year so looks a decent prospect at this price in a restricted field. | |||
Jimmy Walker | 2pt each way 40-1 | SkyBet |
Finishing position: T10 Back Jimmy Walker Again |
In an event where value is hard to find this early price on proven winner Jimmy Walker shines out. He’s had a great few years and we see no reason why he can’t win again in 2016. Walker has only had two stabs at Kapalua and his 2nd place last year shows he’s capable of contending this week against such a restricted field. | |||
David Lingmerth | 2pt each way 80-1 | Stan James |
Finishing position: T15 Back David Lingmerth Again |
Of all the Kapalua rookies this week David Lingmerth makes most sense to us. He’s a long hitter who should make the most of the wide open spaces and is a very able wind player. After his win at Memorial he’s had a solid season and looks primed for further success in 2016. |
