A stellar field lines up this week in Abu Dhabi. Mickelson, Stenson and McIlroy feature here and the course, at 7600 yards, clearly favours the longer hitters. Martin Kaymer won last year and the same names tend to gravitate to the top of the leaderboard each yeah. Rory McIlroy is the star attraction this week. This one looks pretty wide open and always consider the usual Middle Eastern experts.

There were signs in 2014 that Alvario was on the way back. In fact we had a nice 50-1 place win with him in China. Fact is, Quiros has always played some of his best golf in the Gulf states and at this price we’re happy to have a small nibble. Fully fit and raring to go, the long hitting Spaniard could be the surprise package this week – just as our mate Rafa was in 2014.

We fully expect Olesen to win again this year. He looks to be on the comeback trail after a win late in 2014 and his solid Middle East record makes him very backable this week at a good early price.

Rafa is a really solid all round player who goes especially well in warm, dry conditions. He’s made all his five cuts in Abu Dhabi with a T3 to reward our followers here 12 months ago at 100-1. He hits plenty of greens and gives it a decent clip off the tee. Rafa should have won the DP Championship in November and will be doubly keen to have a strong showing this week.
