HP Byron Nelson Championship Tips

HP Byron Nelson Championship - HP Byron Nelson Championship TPC Four Seasons Resort, Irving, TX

16 May 2013 - 19 May 2013

Tip date: 13 May 2013

This week the tour moves to TPC Four Seasons in Texas for the HP Byron Nelson Championship. The course is a tricky 7166 yard par 70. Both par 5 are reachable and the Texas wind can be a significant factor. The winning score has varied between -3 and -19 as a result. The greens are large but have closely mown run off areas and can be difficult to find. Jason Dufner is the defending champion but he’s putting nowhere near as well as this time last year. It’s a pretty weak field for this event – most of the big names are having a week off after The Players.

Name Odds Bookmaker
D A Points 2pt each way 45-1 Stan James Finishing position: T12

Back D A Points Again
Sometimes you look at the current form, the course form and a glance down the bookmakers lists shouts out a name – Darren Andrew Points! His performances of late are well documented and if you add it to Byron Nelson form of 3-7-40-19 then he’s a rock solid each way bet this week.
John Huh 1pt each way 110-1 Bet365 Finishing position: T8

Back John Huh Again
John has had a quiet start to 2013 after his Rookie of the Year 2012. But the signs are that he’s coming back to life. He’s made three of his last four cuts and had an excellent T11 at The Masters. He has little course form (WD after a 70 in round one last year) but we’re not unduly bothered by that. The 2nd and 3rd place finishers last year had never played Four Seasons before. It’s not a course that you have to learn. He’s struggled with the putter this season but if the flat stick warms up we can see John sneaking a top 5 in a relatively weak field.
Brian Gay 1pt each way 90-1 Stan James Finishing position: MC

Back Brian Gay Again
Brian has had a stellar season thus far – the pinnacle being his play-off victory at the Humana Challenge. The short game is as good as ever and he’s worked hard over the winter to add a few precious yards to his drives. He’s definitely a player who prospers on the shorter courses – like TPC Four Seasons! He’s been in steady cut making form of late (3 out of the last 4) on tracks that were never going to suit. His Byron Nelson form is encouraging with a 7th, 2nd and 14th in the last five years. The large, undulating greens are tailor made for one of the finest putters on Tour. All this makes a good case for a small punt on Brian this week.

All quoted odds correct as of 18:00 on 13/05/2013. These are obviously subject to fluctuation.
