This week’s stop on the PGA Tour is what most people regard as the fifth Major – The Players Championship. This event features one of the strongest fields of the year and is always played at TPC Sawgrass in Florida. This is an extremely tricky course and features the famous par 3 17th hole with its island green. This combined with the treacherous 18th makes for an extremely demanding finish – many hopes have found a watery grave over the years! It’s a 7200 yard par 72 and length off the tee seems to offer no real advantage. The Bermuda greens are very small and extremely fast. Matt Kucher defends.

Graeme McDowell | 2pt each way 40-1 | Bet365 1/4 odds TOP SIX! |
Finishing position: MC Back Graeme McDowell Again |
Graeme McDowell looks to be getting back to his best. A win at Habour Town and three other top 10s in seven starts is a very good record. He’s a guy coming into the Players with real momentum, the course should fit his game (he’s had two solid finishes here when relatively out of form in 2011 and 2012) and these odds should be snapped up.
Jason Day | 2pt each way 45-1 | Stan James 1/4 odds TOP SIX! |
Finishing position: T19 Back Jason Day Again |
Jason is another player, like McDowell, who is looking like hitting his best form. Four top 10s and no cuts missed in nine starts says everything about the state of his game right now. His third place finish at Augusta should have been better and he looks ready to win. Add in a T6 at Sawgrass in 2011 and we think he’s a cracking each way bet at these odds.
Ian Poulter | 1pt each way 70-1 | Bet365 1/4 odds TOP SIX! |
Finishing position: MC Back Ian Poulter Again |
We like the look of Ian this week. He’s had a solid start to the year (5 of 6 cuts made) and seems comfortable at Sawgrass. He’s made seven of his last eight cuts here with a 2nd place in 2009 the highlight. He’s certainly not short on confidence and this is the type of venue where he could easily pop up in the frame. We’re a bit surprised he hasn’t made a faster start o this season after his Ryder Cup heroics but we reckon a he’s worth a small interest this week. |
