The US Open moves to a brand new venue for this year’s edition. Chambers Bay is a long par 70 which measures up to 7800 yards from the back tees. It’s a links-style set-up with wide fairways, vast bunkers and a lot of fescue for the seriously wayward. It is widely regarded as an extremely stern test if, as expected, the wind blows. Martin Kaymer won last year’s event at a very different Pinehurst.
Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
---|---|---|---|
Sergio Garcia | 2pt each way 35-1 | Bet365 TOP SIX |
Finishing position: T18 Back Sergio Garcia Again |
Sergio could be a dark horse this week. He’s in good current form and rewarded our followers with a very nice runner up finish at the Players last month. He’s a good driver and finds a decent number of greens. He’s also a very proficient wind player. On this week’s blank canvas we think he’s well worth a punt at this price. | |||
Jim Furyk | 2pt each way 40-1 | SkyBet TOP SIX |
Finishing position: T42 Back Jim Furyk Again |
Jim is a hard course specialist and has contended at a number of Opens. He’s also playing some great golf. He won at Harbour Town in April and was T5 last time out at Memorial. If this one turns into a grind then Jim could easily pop up in the paying places this week. | |||
Charley Hoffman | 2pt each way 125-1 | SkyBet TOP SIX |
Finishing position: MC Back Charley Hoffman Again |
We’ve had some success with Charley over the years and he’s playing possibly the best golf of his career right now. It’s looking wide open this week and Hoffman has a realistic change of a place finish assuming his good play continues. He’s not had a great US Open record but this course is far removed from anything the tournament has faced before. |
