So the first, and certainly most prestigious, Major of the year is here. It’s the only major championship that’s always played at the same venue. The course always presents a stern test. The landing areas off the tee are relatively generous and the rough is not especially punishing. As ever, the biggest challenge is the lightning fast, undulating greens. Generally, the course favours the longer hitters and a reasonable track record at Augusta is a pre requisite. Bubba Watson defends but seems a bit out of sorts at the moment. Tiger Woods is the hot favourite at a general 7/2.

Hunter has steady developed into a world class player over the last few years. The only thing really missing from his CV is a major championship and there is reason to believe it could occur at Augusta. Two wins in 2012 have been followed by a solid start to this season. He’s quietly amassed a solid Masters record (10-8-MC-12) and he looks a good prospect this week at these odds.

Kuchar is a genuine world class player who can contend in pretty much any US event. He’s made all his cuts this year and already posted a victory. The reigning Players Champion also had a very eye catching T3 at the Masters last year. Stats od 24-27-3 over the last three years at Augusta make Kuchar a must bet at these odds. Peter had a very eye catching 3rd here last year and he looks able to repeat that in 2013. He’s concentrating on the PGA Tour and that can only help. So far this year he’s made all his cuts and and had a few decent finishes, notably 8th at Doral. He’s a solid player who often slips under the radar and he looks well capable of popping up with a punter friendly finish this week. We’re going with Paddypower’s top Six offer.
