Pinehurst No.2, North Carolina is the venue for this year’s US Open. The course is a classic Donald Ross design and was updated slightly by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw in 2011. As ever it’s a par 70 with two par 5s. It will pose a slightly different test to the US Open norm as the fairways are wider and the small greens are raised with run off areas. Rather than the usual thick rough there’s a kind of sandy scrub with pine needles. Justin Rose won last year at Merion.

Dustin Johnson | 2pt each way 35-1 | WINNER.COM TOP SIX |
Returned 11.7pts for T4 place finish!
Back Dustin Johnson Again |
We think Dustin’s got the all round game to prosper at Pinehurst. His length off the tee will be a great asset and he’ll be going into the greens with a shorter iron than most. He’s in decent cut making form and has the temperament of a proven winner. If any Open course suits Johnson then it’s surely this one.
Webb Simpson | 2pt each way 50-1 | BetFred |
Finishing position: T45 Back Webb Simpson Again |
Webb has had a quiet spell but looks to be regaining form at the right time. He had a great T3 at Southwind at the weekend and should be able to continue his good play this week. We all know he’s got a US Open track record with his victory at Olympic and he won’t be frightened to win again. He’s got the game to do it and in an event that looks wide open we think he’s a good bet.
Charl Schwartzel | 2pt each way 60-1 | Sportingbet |
Finishing position: MC Back Charl Schwartzel Again |
Charl is in good form at the moment and had a very solid T8 at the Memorial a couple of weeks ago. He’s coming into form and has the kind of solid all round game that should do well at Pinehurst. He’s a proven winner and we think he’s got every chance of popping up at the top of the leaderboard this week. |
