Redstone Golf Club is a 7457 yard par 72 with fast bent grass greens and it’s certainly a good warm up event for the US Masters. In fact many of the top players who really fancy a Green Jacket will be conscious of not peaking too soon. Hunter Mahan is the defending champion and looks in good enough nick to go close again – he is a major champion in waiting so might just be saving himself a little!

The winners this season have fallen into two categories: 1. the bleedin’ obvious (Woods, Mikelson, Snedeker), 2. Rank outsiders and first time winners. The solid mid rank pros aren’t getting a look in. There is no reason why this trend cannot continue and our attention falls on Cameron Tringale. Young, ambitious and yet to post a first victory; there is reason to think it might happen this week. He’s had a good start to the year (3rd two weeks ago) and a very nice T8 here last year. He can take advantage now that the bigger names are thinking of Augusta.

There’s only a couple of things missing from young Thorbjorn’s CV: a really big win and a strong showing in America. Both could happen this week. He’s quickly matured into a confident, aggressive player who looks set for a stellar career and maybe a major or two. He’s had a strong start to the season without quite getting over the line. He’s a player who can hold form for a sustained period and last week’s promising 7th sets up well.

If Bill doesn’t post a win soon I’ll eat my hat. Four top 10s in eight starts says all you need to know about the current state of his game. He’s a proven winner and it’s only a matter of time before win No. 5 arrives. He’s a must bet this week at these kind of odds. He has no event form to speak of and hasn’t played here the last three years but that doesn’t put us off. He’s at the tiop of his game, showing great consistency and he could go very close this weekend.
