So the first, and certainly most prestigious, Major of the year is here. It’s the only major championship that’s always played at the same venue. The course always presents a stern test. The landing areas off the tee are relatively generous and the rough is not especially punishing. As ever, the biggest challenge is the lightning fast, undulating greens. Generally, the course favours the longer hitters and a reasonable track record at Augusta is a pre requisite. Eisenhower’s Tree has been removed from the 17th fairway otherwise all is as you were with the course. With Woods missing, Mickelson carrying an injury and McIlroy seemingly some way off top form it could be that the outsiders have a better than normal chance. Adam Scott defends although 2012 champ Bubba Watson has had a good year so far.

Hunter Mahan | 2pt each way 45-1 | PaddyPower TOP SIX! |
Finishing position: T26 Back Hunter Mahan Again |
Hunter has steady developed into a world class player over the last few years. The only thing really missing from his CV is a major championship and there is reason to believe it could occur at Augusta. He’s playing some really solid golf at the moment and he’s managed a T8, T10 and T12 in his last five starts here. His rock solid tee to green game should suit in an event that’s rarely a birdie-fest.
Justin Rose | 2pt each way 33-1 | Stan James TOP SIX! |
Finishing position: T14 Back Justin Rose Again |
Sorry but we couldn’t resist this price on the reigning US Open Champion. No question, he has the ability to win round Augusta and has a really solid long term record. He freely admits that his game is nearly back after a quiet spell following his Merion triumph. If the putter is warm then he has the bottle and accuracy to figure at the top of the leaderboard this week.
Jamie Donaldson | 1pt each way 125-1 | Stan James TOP SIX! |
Finishing position: T14 Back Jamie Donaldson Again |
Jamie has had a great couple of years, winning tournaments and contending in big events. His T2 at Doral in the WGC really caught the eye in March and he’s exactly the type of long priced outsider who could pop up in the top six. He’s quickly growing in stature and sits proudly at the top of the Race to Dubai rankings. Donaldson ticks a lot of the boxes for an outsider this week. |
