The Honda Classic marks the start of the Florida Swing. This event is held at the Champions Course at PGA National. It is a 7110 yard par 70 which very much favours the shot-makers who can shape the ball both ways. The rough is relatively severe. As ever in Florida, the ability to play well in the wind is very useful. Michael Thompson was the shock winner last year and a strong field lines up this week. McIlroy and Woods are in attendance.
Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
---|---|---|---|
Rickie Fowler | 2pt each way 35-1 | PaddyPower TOP SIX |
Finishing position: T24 Back Rickie Fowler Again |
We see young Ricky having a successful 2014 and seems to be on the right track already. He had an excellent 3rd at the Accenture Matchplay and on a course that suits the better ball strikers, Fowler looks a good prospect. Factor in a T7 and T13 in his last two Honda starts and we’re happy to have an each way punt at these odds. | |||
Zach Johnson | 2pt each way 28-1 | PaddyPower TOP SIX |
Finishing position: T33 Back Zach Johnson Again |
We think PGA National is right up Zach Johnson’s street and we’re happy to recommend him at what is quite a good price for one of the best players in the world right now. Form of 1-T8-T3 speaks for itself and we’re happy to ignore the poor outing last week at Dove Mountain on a course and format that was never going to suit. Fact is, Johnson can win anywhere that there’s a premium on accuracy and he wont be fazed by the star studded field one little bit. | |||
Charles Howell III | 1pt each way 66-1 | Ladbrokes |
Finishing position: T55 Back Charles Howell III Again |
I’m sorry but we can’t resist a small punt on Howell this week. Like Fowler, he’s a great ball striker who prospers on courses like this. He’s never missed a cut here and his Honda form has steadily improved over the years. He’s had his customary good start to the year and will be flying under the radar this week at a good price. |
