The WGC Accenture Match Play is once again held at Dove Mountain in Arizona. This is a fairly typical desert layout with minimal rough and large greens. It is a long par 72 measuring 7791 yards with four par 5s. Experience of these types of events helps. Matt Kuchar defends and will be hoping for better weather than 2013’s snow affected event.
Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
---|---|---|---|
Hunter Mahan | 2pt each way 25-1 | Stan James |
Finishing position: 3rd round loser Back Hunter Mahan Again |
Hunter leaps off the page for us this week. He’s got a really solid WGC record and has made the final the last two years. He’s a very steady player who rarely gifts a hole to the opposition. Hunter’s game looks in good fettle right now and he will expect to challenge strongly this week. | |||
Webb Simpson | 2pt each way 33-1 | Stan James |
Finishing position: 3rd round loser Back Webb Simpson Again |
Webb Simpson has steadily become a world class player of the last few years and will be looking for a big 2014 season having already posted a victory. Like Mahan, he’s not a flashy player and you’re going to have to work hard to win a hole against him. We like the progressive look of his Accenture form and are happy to have a punt at a decent value price. | |||
Bubba Watson | 2pt each way 28-1 | Stan James |
Finishing position: 3rd round loser Back Bubba Watson Again |
We tipped Bubba a couple of weeks ago and he narrowly missed landing the Phoenix Open. He’s playing some good stuff right now and proved this with a great win on Sunday at the Northern Trust Open on a course that doesn’t really suit. Dove Mountain play’s right into Watson’s hands and, having made the last four in 2011, we’re happy to gamble on his good play lasting another week. |
