Held at TPC Scottsdale, The Phoenix Open will have the usual huge crowds and boisterous atmosphere. A 7216 yard par 71 with three par fives, the course has an exciting finish with the 16th a tough par three, the 17th a driveable par four and the very difficult par four 18th. The rough is relatively light and the greens are of a generous size. Phil Mickelson is the defending champion having won in 2013 with a staggering -27 total featuring a 60 in round one.

Returned 17pts for T2 place finish!
Back Bubba Watson Again |
We think Bubba will be firmly on the comeback trail this season and the signs are that he’s starting to get back to his best. He had a decent T23 at Torrey Pines on a course that doesn’t suit and he managed a credible T15 in Phoenix last year when out of sorts. His long term record at Scottsdale is pretty decent and there is no problem with him handling the boisterous crowds – he’ll thrive on it.
Matt Every | 1pt each way 80-1 | PaddyPower |
Finishing position: T37 Back Matt Every Again |
Matt is our final pick this week. He’s had a really solid start to 2014 with a T7 and T13 in his last two starts with all rounds in the 60s. That’s solid playing and if you factor in his two top 10s in his only two Phoenix attempts then he’s a guy who must have a first class chance of posting a punter friendly finish this week.
Kevin Na | 1pt each way 90-1 | Stan James |
Finishing position: T19 Back Kevin Na Again |
Kevin is finally over his injury problems and seems to be easing nicely back into competing on the PGA Tour. He’s had a good 2014 season so far with a T3 and a T8 already and sits 39th in the Fedex Cup. He’s got a good record at Scottsdale and he can unquestionably handle the unique atmosphere of this event. His GIR and putting stats are looking good so far and if he continues that then he can contend this week on a course he loves. |
