Omega Dubai Desert Classic Tips

Omega Dubai Desert Classic - Emirates GC,Dubai,United Arab Emirates

30 January 2014 - 02 February 2014

Tip date: 28 January 2014

A much stronger field than last year lines up in Dubai at the Emirates GC this week. Woods and McIlroy are the star attractions and predictably head the bookies lists. The course is a 7300 par 72 and the wind can be a factor. A solid tee-to-green game is required here with a number of dog-leg, tree lined holes. The large Bermuda greens are relatively flat. Stephen Gallacher was the winner last year. McIlroy should be a factor but Woods seemed really out of sorts last time out at the Farmers.

Name Odds Bookmaker
Rafael Cabrera-Bello 2pt each way 28-1 BetVictor Finishing position: T41

Back Rafael Cabrera-Bello Again
Those of you who followed us a couple of weeks ago will remember our tasty 100-1 place win. Well, he did it again in Doha (albeit at 40-1) and we see no reason why he won’t be knocking on the door again this week. His Emirates form is very good with the win in 2012 sandwiching two top 20 finishes. We know his odds have slumped over the last fortnight but it’s very hard to argue against the in-form Spaniard this week and another win is a distinct possibility.
Ernie Els 2pt each way 50-1 Stan James TOP SIX Finishing position: MC

Back Ernie Els Again
‘The Big Easy’ really needs no introduction to golfing punters but his first appearance at the Emirates since 2009 has caught our eye. Simply put, his long term Dubai form is first class. In his last eight starts he’s had seven top 3’s (including two wins) and just the one missed cut. He’s shaken the rust off with three decent rounds in Qatar and we can see no reason why he won’t go well this week on a course that suits much better than Doha.
Paul Casey 2pt each way 60-1 Stan James TOP SIX Finishing position: T9

Back Paul Casey Again
We think Paul is in line for a good 2014 with another win a distinct possibility. His ball striking is back at the old levels and only a cool putter has held him back of late. Nevertheless, he’s a solid performer in the Middle East and his Dubai form is solid long term. He’s been in decent cut making form without troubling the top places of late but a warm putter could see him up there this week. We’re happy to have a small punt at these odds.

All quoted odds correct as of 15:00 on 27/01/2014. These are obviously subject to fluctuation.
