A solid field lines up this week at Doha Golf Club in Qatar. The course is a 7400 yard par 72 with a winning score usually around -15. The course is fairly open with a bit of room off the tee. Wind can be a major factor here with light winds forecast on Thursday, strengthening towards the weekend. Chris Wood snatched his maiden tour victory here last season.
NOTE: This event starts on Wednesday!

---|---|---|---|
Thongchai Jaidee | 2pt each way 50-1 | BetVictor |
Finishing position: T33 Back Thongchai Jaidee Again |
Jaidee is always a player to be considered in the Middle East. He’s got a good record in all the Gulf States and we see no reason why he can’t go well again this week. He’s got a solid long term record at Doha with three consecutive top 20s including T9 last season. His T10 in Abu Dhabi last week does nothing to put us off. | |||
Brett Rumford | 1pt each way 125-1 | Stan James |
Finishing position: MC Back Brett Rumford Again |
We’re happy to have a small punt on Brett this week. Yes, he missed the Abu Dhabi cut by a mile but he was a solid T10 the week before and this guy has got a putter that can catch fire at any moment. Take into account course form of T16-T3-MC-T20-T22 and it’s clear he gets on with the greens. No question, Rumford is a player of greater stature than 12 months ago and we can see a contending performance this week if the putter is anything like warm. | |||
Thorbjorn Olesen | 1pt each way 80-1 | Ladbrokes |
Returned 21pts for T3 place finish!
Back Thorbjorn Olesen Again |
I’m sorry but we can’t resist a tiny punt on Olesen at this price. There is no doubt that he can become a world class player and it’s only a matter of time before he catches fire once more. Fully fit and focussed on a second tour win, Olesen can contend this week. He has a good record in the early season desert events and posted T22 here last year. He’s back to making cuts and only a small all-round improvement will see him near the top of leaderboards again. |
