The Honda Classic marks the start of the Florida Swing. This event is held at the Champions Course at PGA National. It is a 7110 yard par 70 which very much favours the shot-makers who can shape the ball both ways. The rough is relatively severe. As ever in Florida, the ability to play well in the wind is very useful. There is a very strong field this week with both Tiger Woods and defending champion Rory McIlroy in attendance. This should bump up the odds on some of the lesser lights!

Charles Howell III | 2pt each way 50-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: T29 Back Charles Howell III Again |
We make no apology for tipping Charles Howell again this week. He’s had a superb season so far and a win doesn’t look too far away. The course seems to suit with three consecutive cuts made with 26-10-26 the form figures (when playing nowhere near as well as he is now). A good win in the World Match Play against Tiger Woods will not have harmed his confidence. 17th in GIR and 31st in strokes gained putting is a good combination for featuring at the top of a leaderboard. He’s going to win this season and this is as good a place as any. | |||
Tommy Gainey | 1pt each way 275-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: MC Back Tommy Gainey Again |
Tommy might seem an obscure choice but bear with us. Cast your mind back to the last time he lined up on a par 70 seaside course. Yep, the McGladrey Classic, where he shot 60 in the final round to win. In fact, Tommy is pretty much a par 70 specialist and most of his best performances come on the types of formats. Forget the dodgy form on the Mickey Mouse Pro-Am events this season. They were never going to suit. We think Tommy’s got a strong chance of contending this week and having notched his first PGA Tour title he’s proved to himself and others that he can do it. On the right course we can see Gainey contending this season and this week sits very nicely especially at these Mega odds! |
