The first event on the PGA is an all-winners field of only 30 players. Some of the big names who would be eligible to play are missing (Woods, McIlroy) so this one looks pretty wide open.
The Plantation Course at Kapalua is a wide open par 73 of 7411 yards with the 663 yard par 5 18th the signature hole. Wind can be a factor but the course should suit the longer hitters. Only Steve Stricker and Matt Kuchar have any sort of decent course form but at 14-1 and 11-1 they don’t appeal. So we’re looking further down the list:
Name | Odds | Bookmaker | |
---|---|---|---|
Kyle Stanley | 2pt each way 55-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: 30 Back Kyle Stanley Again |
Stanley started last season well, winning the Phoenix Open. He faded later but should return refreshed and looking to show his best form. A solid tee to green game and a long hitter, Kapalua should suit if the putter is anything like warm. In such a restricted field a small interest at these odds has to appeal. | |||
Johnson Wagner | 1pt each way 80-1 | Bet365 |
Finishing position: T13 Back Johnson Wagner Again |
Another player who had a storming start to 2012 with a win and a 2nd in his first three starts, Wagner obviously goes best when fresh. This guy has quietly amassed three tour wins almost unnoticed. Together with two top 10s in his only two starts at Kapalua, we can see this guy going close at a tasty price. |
All quoted odds correct as of 11:00 on 01/01/2013. These are obviously subject to fluctuation.
